What's the deal? Tidal Ventures has led a 5.3 million AUD (roughly $3.69 million) seed round into RedOwl, the Melbourne-based, AI-powered fintech backed by Mastercard. CP Ventures also participated, valuing the startup at 40 million AUD.

What does RedOwl do? Its platform helps companies detect and prevent margin leakage, catching errors such as invoices priced above the contracted rate, services delivered but never billed, or spending outside company policy. Customers already include ASX-listed telco Aussie Broadband and mall owner Vicinity Centres.

Why now? The seed round follows a $15 million pre-seed raise in March last year. RedOwl will use the fresh capital to develop its platform and grow its client book.

What's the Mastercard link? Founded in 2024 by Jitto Arulampalam and Thushan Shanmugarajah, RedOwl partnered with the payments giant the same year after being selected for its global startup engagement program.

"Finance teams are being asked to make faster decisions across increasingly complex systems, but the context they need remains fragmented," said Tidal Ventures' Kieran O'Neill.

The signal: At 5.3 million AUD, RedOwl's raise sits in the 91st percentile of all-time seed rounds for Australian fintech, based on a sample of 429 deals — a sizeable bet on tools that let finance teams plug revenue gaps automatically.
